Don’t know who St Fremund is? Fremund was a Saxon saint who was said to be the son of King Offa, and although he had become a hermit, when the Danes attacked he took up arms, defended his people, and with the help of angels, defeated the Danes. However his head was cut off by Oswy, a traitorous commander on his side, (the event depicted on the badge) but Oswy immediately repented, was forgiven and where Fremund’s head rested a spring gushed out where miracles happened. Dunstable priory had a relic of the Saxon saint which drew pilgrims to the town and the badge is a faithful copy of the Dunstable Priory Seal.
